Six kilometres from Saturnia lies the small village of Montemerano. It’s a jewel of Renaissance architecture, rich in history and tradition, long contested by the powers of central Italy, Sienese, Florentines, Orvietans and of course the Orsini from Pitigliano. This village attests to its former historical importance. Wandering the narrow streets of its historic centre is very pleasant.
